Aces Beat Conference Foe Fairfield Union
< < Back to ?p=168301Despite a late game 94-yard touchdown (TD) run, the Pit was rocking tonight as the Amanda-Clearcreek Aces (3-3,2-1) took care of business against the visiting Fairfield Union Falcons (3-3,1-2) 35-14.
Behind 229 total yards by senior wide receiver Brock Schneider, the Aces were able to control the pace of the game with a tough ground attack. When the final whistle blew, the Aces were able to rack up 174 yards rushing.
Schneider was able to do it through all aspects of the game. He had a 67-yard rushing TD, a 13-yard reception for a TD and a 58-yard punt return for a TD on the third quarter.
Alongside Schneider on the ground was senior running back R.J. Martin. Martin was able to rush for 103 yards on the night. He also crossed the goal line twice for two scores.
With such an aggressive ground game, the passing game took a back seat tonight. Junior quarterback Brayden Neff only attempted five passes. Completing two for 51 yards. One of those passes was a 24-yard touchdown to Will Riffle. Neff, along with the rest of the Aces’ offense, was able to put up 238 total yards on the Falcons’ defense.
As for the Aces’ defense, they were clicking as well. Despite the 94-yard touchdown mentioned earlier, the Falcons could not get anything going. They scored on their second passion of the game off of a 14-yard TD run by junior quarterback Zach Shinn. On their next possession, Shinn’s pitch to the running back was fumbled and recovered by Nick Mennard of Amanda-Clearcreek.
It was more or less the same the rest of the game for Fairfield Union. Shinn’s night was cut short early in the third with an apparent right leg injury. His replacement, Nick Young Jr., could not get things going since the Aces’ defense was already in the groove with a 35-7 lead.
The Falcons would finish the game with 278 total yards on offense.
Next week, the Aces will look to extend their win streak to three as they play host to conference foe, the Bloom Carroll Bulldogs. Fairfield Union will look to get back on track against Hamilton Township.
