Dorsey Leads Ohio To Win Over Wright State
< < Back to ?p=17033Ohio got back to its winning ways thanks largely in part to Savannah Jo Dorsey. The sophomore hurler pitched a complete game and hit a two-run homer in the Bobcats’ 3-1 win over Wright State.
The ‘Cats got on the board in the second inning when Dorsey hit a long ball over the left field fence to score Madison Claytor and give Ohio a 2-0 lead. It turned out to be the only runs Ohio needed. The home run was her second of the year.
“Ever since the beginning of the week we were feeling the excitement and the energy to get out here on the field and to get the win,” Dorsey said.
“We’re excited to be finally on our home field this week and get out here and host,” Ohio coach Jodi Hermaneck said. “…And be in front of our home crowd and just have the opportunity to start the second phase of the season on the right foot.”
Second baseman Alexia Cortez scored the only other Bobcat run with a screamer off a solo shot that hit the indoor batting cages beyond the left field fence with an authoritative plunk.
“I worked it to a full count, and I was really relaxed at that point,” Cortez said. “She’d been going curveball, curveball, curveball, curveball so… if she comes inside I’m getting my barrel out.”
Adrienne Gebele upped her team-high batting average to .388 with two hits in the contest.
Dorsey finished the contest with an impressive stat line. Though giving up eight hits and four walks, she struck out 10 over seven innings of work in the complete game victory. Her best stretch was over the final four innings of work, in which she allowed only two base runners and retired four on strikes.
Ohio moved to 14-12 with the win, as Wright State fell to 2-14.
