After one season at the helm as head coach of Ohio hockey, CSCHL Coach of the Year, Jonathon Sheridan, has stepped down to pursue an NCAA coaching opportunity. Sheridan will assume the position of assistant coach at NCAA Division III Lawrence University.

Sheridan played three years at Lawrence and even captained the squad in its 2010-11 campaign.

"To be given the chance to return to the place where I played and join a coaching staff with the guy that coached me in my playing days, it is an opportunity I had to take at the end of the day," Sheridan told the team’s official website on Monday.

Sheridan spent only two years total on Ohio’s bench, one as an assistant under Dan Morris, and the other after being promoted to Morris’ position after Morris stepped down this past summer.

As an assistant, Sheridan saw the Bobcats earn a 26-9-2 regular season record, capture a CSCHL Tournament Championship, and advance to the final four of the ACHA National Tournament. As head coach, Sheridan’s team improved their season record to 30-7-3, advance to the CSCHL Tournament Final, but fell in their first game of nationals.

Ohio hockey’s website said the vacancy will be open to “a wide pool of candidates,” but a decision on Sheridan’s replacement may not be made for several months.
