The Bobcats Early Offensive Surge Allows Them to Top Western Michigan

It was a barn burner in the Convocation Center on Wednesday night, as the Ohio Bobcats came out with an 80-67 victory over conference foe, the Western Michigan Broncos.
The Bobcats clicked offensively just before the midpoint of the game, which ultimately proved to be the difference. They overcame Broncos hot shooting in the first quarter by outscoring them 27-10 in the second quarter.
The Bobcats shot 9-of-14 overall and 7-of-11 from 3-point land in the quarter. Their peaking point was when they buried triples on four consecutive possessions, giving them a strong confidence boost going into the half.
The Bobcats first half momentum they built allowed them to outlast the Broncos second half comeback attempt.
This game showed how dangerous this team can be when they dominate on the defensive end. Other than the first quarter, they made the Broncos shoot below 38%.
Katie Barker was the player of the game, scoring 18 off the bench for the Bobcats and going 6-of-12 from three-point land. She also ignited a suffocating defense that allowed them to slow their opponent. Quiera Lampkins was the team’s second leading scorer with 16 points.
Their bench also played a huge role in their victory, outscoring the Broncos bench 40-11.
With conference fully underway, the Bobcats (15-4, 6-2) look like a possible favorite to win the Mid-American Conference. They hold a comfortable two game lead and are the only team to have more than five conference wins. Just three other MAC teams have been able to win a conference game thus far.1
The Bobcats have won three in a row and four of their last five games. They get a few days off before traveling to Oxford to play rival Miami (OH) on Saturday in what will be the first of a two-game road trip.
