Ohio Splits Series with Illinois
< < Back to ohio-splits-series-with-illinoisIn their weekend series away at Illinois, the Bobcats fell short in their first game with a 5-4 loss Friday night but managed to make a comeback with a 4-1 win on Saturday.
Although the team was short two players, leading scorer Gianni Evangelisti and defensemen Tom Evans, Gabe Lampron was welcomed back on the ice after sitting out Friday’s game due to a suspension resulting from a misconduct given to him in last weeks’ game against Pittsburgh.
Illinois leads the American Collegiate Hockey Association in power play goals but were unable to take advantage of this as Ohio’s defense was strong enough to prevent scoring. After a tough loss on Friday, the Green and White were able to bounce back and slide four goals into the net to beat the Fighting Illini 4-1.
After Ohio senior Patrick Spellacy scored the first goal of the game, Tyler Opilka tied it at the end of the first, scoring Illinois’ first and only goal of the night with just seconds left. The score remained tied throughout the second period until the third started when the Bobcats went on a shooting spree.
The second goal for the ‘Cats was scored by Michael LaFrenier with 17 minutes left in regulation. In just the next seven minutes, Joey Breslin scored the third goal of the game and his 13th goal of the season and with Bryan Lubin scored the fourth and final goal of the game.
Next on the schedule, Ohio will be at home February 17 and 18 as they host Iowa State. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 on Friday and Saturday, which is also senior night.
