Flyers Cement Winless Season for Federal Hocking
< < Back to flyers-cement-winless-season-for-federal-hockingControl the ball and the boards and you win the game, that is the classic saying. That was the recipe the Saint Joseph Flyers used to down the Federal Hocking Lancers. The Lancers had 25 turnovers and gave up 9 offensive rebounds on their way to a 53-28 loss.
The game got off to a rough start for the Lancers as they had more turnovers than shot attempts for the first five minutes of the game. Chase Walters had two of his five offensive boards in the first quarter. The second half was more of the same as Zac McGraw of the Flyers would wreak havoc on poor passes from Federal Hocking. The Flyers would go into the half leading 26-9, showcasing how dominant their defense was.
The second half was more of the same as the Lancers passing lanes were being closes left and right by a swarming defense led by Isaac Whaley and Chase Walters who would both have three steals for the flyers on the night. Six different Lancers would have multiple turnovers by the night’s end, signifying the rough night, and season, the Lancers had all around.
All night the Flyers were able to get easy buckets down low all night, their average possession would be over 30 seconds as their passes all around the key would open up the Lancer defense. Threes weren’t falling early, and the Flyers were able to make the necessary changes to get easier points. For the Lancers, Jared Hawk would lead the way with 10 points and Walker Church would have seven boards. The Flyers were led by Chase Walters 14 points and eight boards.
The loss ended the tough season for the Lancers who would finish the season winless at 0-23. Saint Joseph moves on in the playoffs and will play a tough Southern team that beat them 61-52 earlier in the year.
