< < Back to bobcats-finish-first-day-of-wrestling-championshipsThree Ohio wrestlers took part in the NCAA Wrestling Championships but No. 13 Shakur Laney at 125 was the lone victor of the day for the Bobcats as he defeated Sean Nickell of California State University, Bakersfield. It was not easy for Laney but he pulled out with a 10-5 decision. After the victory, he went on to wrestle No. 4 Darian Cruz of Lehigh during the evening session. It was a tough and gritty fight but unfortunetly for Laney, he left the ring with a 1-0 loss.
At 141, redshirt junior Noah Forrider was beat by No. 9 Colton McCrystal of Nebraska. The 7-1 decision left Forrider with a loss but he had one more shot to make the day a positive one. His next competitor was Logan Everett of Army. Unlike his first match, Forrider had his hand raised at the end of the match with a 9-3 victory. This win was his first NCAA tournament win.
Zach Parker was the first Bobcat to wrestle at night and his abilities were pushed. A tight fight between Parker and Doug Vallaro of Lehigh saw both with a single point at the end of the three periods. In overtime, Parker battled but Vallaro walked away with 3-1 victory. His loss led him to his next opponent, Dustin Dennison of Utah Valley. Parker could not get out of his funk and lost again, 3-1.
The competition continues tomorrow.
