< < Back to performing-arts-for-spring-homecoming-weekend-announcedOHIO’s On The Green Weekend will feature several performing arts-based activities for alumni and friends during the University’s spring Homecoming May 17-21.
The events get started at 7:30 p.m. May 18 with live jazz music and desserts on historic College Green. Musicians from the OHIO School of Music will entertain alumni, faculty, staff and Athens community members as they enjoy fresh air and tasty sweets.
The Ohio University Lancaster Theatre will perform the 1960s musical The Fantasticks at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20 in Baker Center Theater. The cast, crew and set will travel to Athens to present their spring production to visiting alumni.
The OUL Theatre students have headlined past On The Green Weekends with performances of “Lend Me a Tenor” and “The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee.”
The musical performance will also feature a live orchestra comprised of local musicians such as Rick Maynard, Roger Dusenberry and Clint Ervin. The musicians and actors will work together to perform classic numbers such as “Soon It’s Gonna Rain” and “Try to Remember.”
OUL Theatre Director A. Victor Jones said the performance is a can’t-miss event.
“This is an amazing experience for our OUL Theatre students,” Jones said. “OHIO alumni have been such a constant support on our campus, and our performances in Athens. They have loved attending our shows!”
