< < Back to meigs-county-man-arrested-investigation-infant-sons-injuriesA Middleport man is charged with felonious assault in connection with serious injuries sustained by his 5-month-old son, who remains in critical condition, authorities reported.
Thaddeus Bumgardner, 32, of Noble Summit Road, appeared in Meigs County Court on Wednesday. In County Court, a plea is not entered on felony charges.
The investigation began on Tuesday, Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood told The Athens Messenger on Wednesday. The child was flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, "due to severe bruising and injuries consistent with abuse," a news release stated.
Wood declined to elaborate on the extent of the injuries the child had sustained. A search was conducted on Bumgardner's home after the child was taken to the hospital.
"No one in the house reported the injuries," Wood said.
No other individuals were named in the news release in connection with the case. Bumgardner was granted release on his own recognizance, against the recommendation of the Meigs County Prosecutor's Office, according to the news release by the Meigs County Sheriff's Office.
