The Chillicothe Gazette reports 59-year-old Richard Althouse, of Harris Station Road, allegedly told Ross County Sheriff’s Office deputies he had been assaulted in Pike County and intended to make a citizen’s arrest after he spotted the suspect’s vehicle while driving along Ohio 772 Monday night.
According to the sheriff’s office, Althouse pulled over and parked at Fredneck’s Mini Mart, grabbed a 12-gauge shotgun from his car, which prompted a store employee to call 911. Capt. Mike Preston said there was no indication Althouse had made contact with the assault suspect and Althouse claimed he had the gun in a safe position.
Althouse was charged with inducing panic.
