Mike Gibbons’ entry into the race Wednesday sets up a GOP primary with Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel for the chance to unseat Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown next year.
The 65-year-old Gibbons says he brings business experience to the campaign and ideas for growing the economy and fixing health care. The political newcomer says he wants to secure the future for his children and grandchildren.
Gibbons says he’s an economic conservative, but on social issues, is a “pro-people” person who’s not dogmatic.
He voted for President Donald Trump after first supporting Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, then Ohio Gov. John Kasich (KAY’-sik).
Gibbons said Trump’s style isn’t his, but he’s got good ideas for the country.
