< < Back to arrest-made-in-murder-of-chauncey-womanAn Athens man is in custody, charged with the murder of a Chauncey woman.
William D. Blair, 54, of Gun Club Road, was charged with aggravated murder, burglary, trafficking in drugs and possession of controlled substances, according to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.
Blair is charged in connection with the death of Mary Robinson, 71, of Mill Street in Chauncey.
Robinson was found dead at a Mill Street residence on June 17, after sheriff’s deputies were asked to conduct a well-being check.
“A preliminary autopsy report concluded that the cause of death was strangulation,” Athens County Sheriff Rodney Smith stated in a press release.
Smith said the investigation by the sheriff’s office determined that Blair “did purposely cause the death of Robinson, while committing or attempting to commit the offense of burglary,” the release stated.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation helped at the scene, along with the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office and the Athens County Major Crimes Unit.
Blair is being held on $1 million at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
