< < Back to tony-hawk-comes-athensHundreds of skaters flocked to the Athens Skate Park to meet legendary pro-skater Tony Hawk on Sunday.
Hawk made an appearance at the park located on East State Street, rounding out the Birdhouse on the Road Summer Tour.
The event began at 2 p.m. and was the last stop on the eight-city tour. The tour began on Aug. 11 and destinations included St. Louis, Cincinnatti, Kansas City, Davenport, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, and Detroit.
Hawk made history in 1999 when he became the first skateboarder to land a 900 turn and has since gone on to earn numerous other accolades.
Athens was the last stop on the tour, which featured eleven other pro skaters.
When Hawk was asked how he liked Athens by WOUB's Brett Masczak, in true skater form he responded, "It was sick, man".
Other skaters on the tour included Aaron “Jaws” Homoki, Ben Raybourn, Clint Walker, David Loy, Kevin Staab, Willy Santos, Clive Dixon, Mike Davis, Shawn Hale and Shaun Gregoire.
