< < Back to fall-brings-trio-major-music-events-hocking-hillsThree distinctive music events taking place this fall in Ohio’s spectacular Hocking Hills region will help solidify the area as a major music destination.
A brand new permanent music venue, Hocking Hills Music Park, opens in the Hills Sept. 20, featuring an inaugural concert by the renowned country-rock band, Pure Prairie League.
Opening the show will be special guests McGuffey Lane and Jonalee White. Hocking Hills Music Park will feature acres of expansive lawn seating, primitive camping and pastoral views of the Hocking Hills’ legendary beauty.
Coming in October, Hocking College and Rocky Brands, Inc. have teamed up to present the second annual Hocktoberfest, slated for Oct. 4. This free event is packed with live entertainment and activities to celebrate the fall season. An impressive list of up-and-coming indie artists, delicious bites and brews and a variety of family-friendly activities will entertain visitors at the Hocking College campus in Nelsonville.
Hocktoberfest offers fun for travelers of all ages, including COSI kiosks where junior travelers can play, explore and learn about science. A lively lumberjack show features stunts like axe throwing and chainsaw carving. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium lets kids get up close and personal with favorite zoo animals.
Clint Bowyer racing, a 5K trail run and a fishing derby add to the day’s activities. Between events, guests can fill up at the festival’s local-focused food vendors, including The Boot Grill, Hocking College Culinary Arts and a beer garden.
But Hocktoberfest’s draw will be its live concerts, featuring The Shock Twins, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, Bombadil, Chris Good & The Sweet Insurrection, Taylor & The Wild Now and The Summoners.
October 10-11 brings the annual Duck Creek Fall Campout to the region. Billed as Duck Creek Log Jam’s little sister, the weekend is described as part old-fashioned camping trip, part laid-back music festival. The Tillers, Hocking River String Band, Al Scorch, Coal Town Rounders, Michaela Anne and the Wild Hearts, Big Medicine, Coal Cave Hollow Boys and Darrin Haquard will fill the stage with great live bluegrass and American roots music.
Located 40 miles southeast of Columbus, Ohio, the Hocking Hills region offers once-in-a-lifetime experiences that make every day feel like Saturday, with plenty of free activities. The region boasts a wide variety of affordable lodging, from camping, cabins and cottages to hotels and inns.
In addition to hiking trails, parks and forests, the Hocking Hills is the Canopy Tour Capital of the Midwest, with more than 50 ziplines being offered via three distinct guide services. Unique gift and antique shops, canoeing, horseback riding, golf, spas and more add to the allure of the Hocking Hills as the perfect place to unplug.
