Nelsonville-York Shuts Down Trimble in Glouster

Southeastern Ohio houses some of the best high school football rivalries to ever take place on the gridiron but few are more special than Nelsonville-York and Trimble. These two powerhouse programs have met every year since 1970, and the stories of their battles still resonate in the walls of the local barbershops and diners. The importance this game merits to these two Ohio small-towns, is only rivaled by “The Game” between the Scarlet and Gray and that team up North.
Both Nelsonville-York and Trimble entered 2017 with lots of new faces and fans are eager to see if their new-bloods can recreate the magical seasons they each had last year respectively. The Buckeyes exit the week with a jumpstart on that with the 21-0 victory in Glouster.
After neither team could muster up anything offensively due to each squad’s daunting defense, Nelsonville York’s quarterback Garrett Maiden and receiver Keegan Wilburn cracked the Tomcat code with a 16- yard bullet right through the heart of Glouster Stadium and Nelsonville-York went up 7-0 with 1:12 left in the first quarter.
The second quarter though was back to the fierce defensive struggle fans were on their feet for in the first quarter. Cameron Kittle would drive the ‘Cats into Buckeye territory to only be suddenly stopped by and the orange and brown behemoth.
While the young Buckeyes offensive struggled to find a groove. However, just like the quarter before, Maiden finished strong ending the half with a run full of jukes, spins and hurdles which ultimately ended up in six points and a Buckeye 13-0 lead into the half.
Coming out of the locker room the Buckeyes were determined to keep the clamps on the Tomcats and they certainly succeeded limiting starting running back Max Cooper to 47 yards on 18 carries. The NY defense played phenomenal ripping the heart out of Trimble drives all night until finally Maiden ended it all with another fantastic touchdown scamper.
Despite the blowout loss Trimble isn’t down they lost last year to NY and bounced back unfortunately for them they’ll have to wait “to get them Buckeyes” next year.
