Mount Zion Baptist Church—Saving an Important Part of Our History

October 7, Saturday, this month’s presentation at the Multicultural Genealogical Center will focus on the the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Athens which is an important part of the history of the area.Mount Zion Baptist Church was critical to many Black people in southeastern Ohio starting as early as 1872.  Presenters:  Henry Woods’s Father was an associate pastor at Mt. Zion; Ada Woodson Adams was baptized and later married her husband, Alvin, at the church; Ron Luce has collected documentation and put together a short history of the church.  All will share their stories, history of the church, and their attempts to restore the magnificent building to its original beauty.

The Multicultural Genealogical Center is located in Chesterhill, Morgan County, Ohio, at the intersection of State Route 377 East and State Route 555 South.  The program will include a social time after the presentation.  The event is free and open to the public.  (DONATIONS WELCOMED)
