Bobcats Stay Hot, Sweep Toledo
< < Back to bobcats-stay-hot-sweep-toledoOhio proved dominant Saturday night against MAC opponent Toledo (1-20, 0-8 MAC), sweeping the Rockets, 25-15, 25-16, 25-17. It was Ohio’s 14th consecutive win over Toledo.
The match marks Ohio’s ninth straight victory and keeps the ‘Cats (15-4, 8-0 MAC) undefeated in conference play.
“It is always good to get conference road wins, and we’re glad to get the win,” Ohio coach Deane Webb said.
The Bobcats dominated every facet of the game. Defensively, Ohio limited the Rockets to a .045 hitting percentage and out-blocked them by a ratio of nearly 2-to-1. On the offensive side, the green and white posted a .252 hitting percentage on the night and dished out five service aces.
“Our pin hitters were very effective today, and we defended well overall,” Webb said.
Ohio jumped out to quick leads in all three sets with a struggling Rocket team never able to bridge the gaps.
The closest Toledo came to a set victory occurred in set three when the Rockets responded to a 7-1 run from the ‘Cats with their own 4-3 run to keep the ‘Cats lead within reach at five. From there Ohio went on to outscore the Rockets 4-2, but Toledo was not done fighting yet. Toledo came out of a timeout on a run to cut the lead back to five, but the ‘Cats closed the sweep with three straight points to end the set and match.
It was an all-around team effort for the MAC-East leaders, led once again by senior veteran Kelly Lamberti. Lamberti recorded 13 kills while freshman outside hitter Jaime Kosiorek chipped in eight. Defensively, junior libero Meredith Ashy led the charge piling up a match-high 16 digs and fellow junior Brooke Coleman added twelve of her own.
