Ellen Lupton “Design for the Senses,”

November 30, 2017 @ 5:15 pm - 6:15 pm
Free

Ellen Lupton, Curator of contemporary design at Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York City and director of Graphic Design MFA program at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore will give a talk titled “Design for the Senses,” in Schoonover 145.

Talk: Design for the Senses

Design is about more than looking. Designers in today cross-disciplinary,

multimedia world create objects, images, and brands that engage all the senses.

Curator and writer Ellen Lupton will engage the audience in active processes of

perception, interpretation, and storytelling. How do vision and language interact

with taste and smell? How does a Nina Simone song taste? How can designers

engage the senses to create richer and more inclusive products and

communications? This presentation draws on Lupton’s ongoing research on

design, storytelling, and multi-sensory experience.
