On Monday, Vinton County Prosecutor Trecia Kimes-Brown announced that Aaron Mans, 44, of Columbus, has been indicted in connection with the June 23 accident on Route 356. Mans was driving a 2008 BMW when he ran off the road and struck a tree at 4:22 p.m. Passengers Jazmin Sloter, 26, of Nelsonville, and Cheri Gifford, 44, of New Marshfield were pronounced dead at the scene.
Mans was injured in the accident and was transported from the scene via medical helicopter to Cabel-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia.
The charge of aggravated vehicular homicide is a felony of the second degree. The case will now proceed through the Vinton County Court of Common Pleas.
Highway Patrol Trooper Quinn Dunn previously told The Messenger that there was a possibility that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
