ZCT to Produce ‘Grey Gardens’ April 13-21
< < Back to zct-produce-grey-gardens-april-13-21The highly-acclaimed musical Grey Gardens comes to the Zanesville Community Theatre (ZCT) this weekend. Winner of the Tony and Grammy awards, among others, Grey Gardens will feature 8 p.m. performances on April 13, 14, 20 and 21. There will also be two Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. on April 15 and 22 at the 940 Findley Avenue theatre.
Based on a 1975 documentary film, also titled Grey Gardens, the musical depicts the everyday lives of two reclusive, formerly upper class, women, who live in poverty in Grey Gardens, a derelict mansion in East Hampton, NY. The first act of the play is almost entirely fictional, but the second act takes many of its scenes and much of its dialogue directly from the documentary.
Cindy Houpt is seen as the central figure of Edith (or “Edie”) Beale, with Tahnee Kay as “Little Edie” and Sally Goins as yet another facet of the Edith character. Matt Swingle appears as George Gould Strong; Rob Cook is seen as J.V. “Major” Bouvier, Edie’s father, and also as Norman Vincent Peale; Cory Roush appears as Joseph Patrick Kennedy, Jr., and also as Jerry; Philip Palmer is seen as the character of Brooks, both Sr. and Jr.; and Katelyn Lemley and Novalee Sharp are seen as Jacqueline “Jackie” Bouvier and Lee Bouvier respectively.
The musical ensemble for the production includes Sheryl Wise and Sue Barzda, woodwinds; Kevin Smith, flute; Kevin Rahrig, trumpet; Blaine Schultice, horn; Julia Curtis, violin; Sharon Evans, cello; Tom Tompkins and Amanda Cox, keyboards; and Tyler Tompkins, percussion.
