Gladden House Sessions 2018: Megan Bee

Renowned local artist Megan Bee played an intimate concert at the Gladden House on the first day of the Nelsonville Music Festival. Her clear voice and strong stage presence brought both the old and the young to the stage, eager to hear her melodies. In between songs, she regaled the audience with stories about her travels out west and the cast of characters she spent time with in the process.
Before her set, Bee talked with Gladden House host Josh Antonuccio about her album Like a Canyon, which she released independently in September of 2017. The album won Best Americana Album, as well as Best Singer-Songwriter Album, at the 2017 Ohio Music Awards. She talked about how she drew inspiration from the people she met on the road, as well as the natural world around her. She discussed the recording of her material, which included some well-known guest artists from the NPR Mountain Stage band.
Bee’s performance this year marks the first time an artist has performed twice on the Gladden House stage. Her last performance was back in 2015, where she performed songs off of her first album A Sense of Place. This time around, she showcased her new songs off of Like a Canyon, starting with “Late 70’s Ford.” After that, she played “Fishing Line,” and finished up with the album’s fan-favorite “Like a Canyon.”
