Every weekend local music geeks unite to provide the region with 11 hours of creatively curated tunes on WOUB 1340AM, an endeavor that is known commonly as Radio Free Athens! Typically the program runs from 9 a.m. EST to 8 p.m. EST every Saturday, and can also be heard through this link.

The president flipped the proverbial bird to the U.N. this week in his speech to the General Assembly. It was scary in three ways. The self congratulatory and nationalistic content, the robotic delivery and the fact that the delegation laughed at him. Expect to hear R.E.M.’s “World Leader Pretend” and some others inspired the lack of trying to make it the UNITED NATIONS.

I have been spending a lot of time lately in central Ohio where I grew up. I like flipping through the channels on the radio while I am there. I was listening to a big classic rock station that I used to tune in to frequently while I lived there, although they are now calling it iconic rock, and it reminded me that I have not done a moment of cheese for a while. This week I am going to up the cheese factor. There will be a moment of cheese at 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Each more cheesy than the last.

Also look forward to some area show previews including Sarah Shook and the Disarmers and Jake Shimabukuro.

Thanks for tuning in.
