Bulldogs Win In Logan For First Time Since 1990

Friday night marked the 92nd meeting between the Athens and the Logan on the football field, and for the first time since 1990 the Bulldogs went in to Logan and came away with the victory, 21-14.
This game got off to a slow start as neither offense could get things going, but it was two different styles of offense being ran for the coaching staffs.
Athens started with the ball and began to show just how strong their offense is as a whole. They got things rolling on the ground and flying through air.
Clay Davis was given the reins in this one as he simply took over on offense, whether it was taking it himself or dishing it off to his weapons on the outside or sticking it to Evan Adams.
Davis finished with 156 yards passing and one touchdown through the air and one touchdown on the ground. Adams finished with 58 yards and a score on 24 carries.
Logan’s Braeden Spatar had four completions with his arm and they all fell into the hands of Landon Little, these two combined for both of the touchdowns for the Chieftains and had 144-yards for each player because there was no other connections for the aerial assault of Logan.
This was the closest game that Athens has been in since losing to Fairland in week two despite being up 21-0 at the half.
The game completely changed in the second half. Logan nearly came all the way back, getting as close as seven points before the final whistle.
As soon as Logan began to go to the air, the game shifted as the Bulldog defense hadn’t had to deal with that all game. It set up great opportunities for play-action plays, but there simply wasn’t enough time left for the Chieftains to make a comeback.
The Bulldogs had a scare tonight. With fighting for a playoff-spot, Athens needs to take every advantage they have to score more and prove that they earned a spot from this season. The loss in week two hurts them a lot, but they have a good chance at winning out. Even with that, it’ll be interesting to see if they will get a chance at a championship run.
