Every weekend local music geeks unite to provide the region with 11 hours of creatively curated tunes on WOUB 1340AM, an endeavor that is known commonly as Radio Free Athens! Typically the program runs from 9 a.m. EST to 8 p.m. EST every Saturday, and can also be heard through this link.

Here is a list of the DJs slated to play on Saturday, October 20:

9 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Ezra Thobaben
12 p.m. to 3 p.m. – R@T
3 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Michael T
6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Adam Pergram

Below, find a preview of some of the groovy tunes that will be flowing through the airwaves this Saturday from a couple of our volunteer DJs.

From R@T, 12 p.m. EDT to 3 p.m. EDT

It is Homecoming weekend here in A-Camp. Lots of alumni are flooding the town, some sober, some not. I recommend coming up town and watching the parade. The 110 and the Alumni 110 are worth the parking hassles. One of my favorite times was when the parade went down Court Street and the alumni band stopped between Washington and Union and played Styx’s “Light Up!” The sound echoed off the buildings and was great.

I will be playing some music that I listened to in my undergrad years. That was the late ’80s and early ’90s, although I will sprinkle in some other times. I also have some music from bands that were from Athens that I will get to, bands like Day for Night and The Snapdragons. I will also look back at some of the great shows that I have seen in Athens.

From Michael T., 3 p.m. EDT to 6 p.m. EDT

Saturday 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. will feature the brand new St. Vincent disc MassEducation, a piano and voice reimaging of last year’s MASSEDUCTION.  And in addition to the usual suspects, the balance of the show will be a Homecoming homage to OHIO bands past, present and future, with extra focus on the burgeoning Athens, Columbus and Cincinnati scenes.
