Athens House Fire Kills Family Pets
< < Back to house-fire-kills-family-petsAn Athens family’s three cats and a dog are dead after a fire in their North Lancaster home Wednesday afternoon.
The Athens and The Plains fire departments fought the blaze for about three hours. The family was not home at the time, and no first responders were injured, according to the Athens Fire Department.
It appears to have burned the home’s upper floors. Video from the scene shows the roof of the house caved in and signs that the fire came through one of the top floor windows.
According to the county auditor, the home, located near Dairy Queen, is owned by Mark and Ellen Kroutel.
