AIFVF ’19 Interviews: ‘General Magic’

General Magic was a technological start-up that spun out from Apple in 1990 with some of the creators of the Mac at it’s forefront, focused on developing the piece of technology that most of us have and often take for granted: the smartphone.
The “magicians” did just that: they developed a handheld, wireless personal communicator that hit the market in 1995, and failed miserably.
General Magic is a documentary that chronicles the exciting, fascinating, and ultimately enlightening tale of the rise and fall of General Magic. Often, failure such as General Magic faced serves as a “crucible for larger success,” as Michael Stern, the executive producer of the film, (as well as one of the original “magicians” at General Magic,) told WOUB’s Emily Votaw in the interview about the film, embedded above.
‘General Magic’ will screen as a part of the Athens International Film and Video Festival on Wednesday, April 10 at 5 p.m.
