In the Studio With Shadow in the Moon
< < Back to in-the-studio-with-shadow-in-the-moonJessica Bouffioux and Kurt McGinnis make up Shadow in the Moon: a theatrically inclined, artfully spooky folk rock duo from Lancaster.
The songs on Shadow in the Moon all feel as though they’d be most appropriately enjoyed under a full moon with the distant looping of a calliope echoing in the background — or perhaps under a spectacular bigtop, in an imaginary circus where there are no elephants or big cats, just feats of human amazement and perhaps a hogshead or two of real fire!
The band impressed WOUB with performances of six originals, and a very Halloween-appropriate cover of Bauhaus’ 1982 song “Bela Lugosi’s Dead.”
Fittingly, Shadow in the Moon (who take their name from a lyric in Danny Elfman’s iconic “This Is Halloween” from 1993’s Tim Burton classic Nightmare Before Christmas) will have an album release/costume party performance celebrating their debut, self-titled release on Thursday, October 31 at Old Bill Bailey’s (200 Harrison Avenue, Lancaster). The duo will also have a Day of the Dead album release party on Friday, November 1 at Double Edge Brewing Company (158 West Chestnut Street, Lancaster).
Listen to an interview with the band, embedded above, and in studio performances of their songs “Echoes of the Past,” “Left Behind,” “Iolite,” “Hollow,” “If You Have Ghosts,” “Estella Luna,” and “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” (Bauhaus cover) in the playlist below.
