GLOUSTER, Ohio – It was an early season TVC-Hocking matchup between the Federal Hocking Lady Lancers and the Trimble Lady Tomcats. For Federal Hocking, it was their first TVC matchup of the season, and for the Lady Tomcats, it was their home opener.

Since tip off, the Lady Tomcats were able to continue to pound the ball and Federal Hocking wasn’t able to withstand the pressure. All in all, Trimble’s balanced attack resulted in a 55-38 trouncing of Federal Hocking.

From the get-go the Lady Lancers provided a full court press on the Lady Tomcats, but with the help of Jayne Six, who stayed in the middle of the press breaker, Trimble was able to move the ball down the court fast to break the press and score easily.

Speaking of Jayne Six, she was a force on both ends of the ball. Six totaled 13 points and 13 rebounds on the game. The Lancers didn’t have an answer for Six’s size, as she was constantly found around the basket when a shot went up.

Another player that helped the Lady Tomcats offensively Thursday night was sophomore guard Emily Young. Young did a fantastic job controlling the tempo for the Lady Tomcats and getting her team involved. In addition to Young’s leadership, she was everywhere. Young added 20 points and seven rebounds.

Head coach for the Tomcats, Joe Richards, was pleased with how balanced the offensive scoring has been as of late for his squad.

“We’re at our best when everyone is playing the right way instead of just one or two people,” Richards said.

Despite a solid effort from the Lady Tomcats, Federal Hocking had their own struggles from the field early on. Throughout the game, the Lady Lancers struggled to find an offensive groove. When they did manage to get on a roll, it was stopped abruptly.

Another difficulty for the Lady Lancers was the three-point shooting and turnovers. The Lancers finished the game, only going 2/24 from three. In addition to the porous shooting from beyond the arc, the Lancers finished with 22 turnovers on the game.

The inability to knock down the three and the turnovers is what doomed Federal Hocking Thursday night.

A bright side, however, was the performance of star point guard Paige Tolson. Tolson led the Lancers in points and rebounds, adding 20 points and seven boards.

Tolson and the Lady Lancers will look to get back on track as Federal Hocking travels to Alexander to face the Spartans on Saturday at 5 p.m.
