Lady Tomcats Beat Wahama Behind Career-high Scoring Night
< < Back to ?p=248533GLOUSTER, Ohio- The Trimble Lady Tomcats were battling for a share of the TVC-Hocking tonight against the Wahama Lady White Falcons and they came out victorious with a final score of 50-28.
The game started out sloppy with both teams committing turnover after turnover, and the Lady White Falcons were able to keep themselves in the game, capitalizing off of the Lady Tomcats Turnovers. At the end of the first half it was still anyone’s game with the score of 16-12.
The Lady Tomcats were battling some sickness tonight, but they still fought hard in order to get this victory. After the game, Head Coach Joe Richards talked about his Lady Tomcat’s performance overall.
“We figured we might be able to push the ball and we started doing that in the second half and we did that really well,” Richards said.
Laikyn Imler really stepped up, dropping a career high 24 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and four steals. She shot a whopping 86% from the field, going 12-14 on the night. Brianna Orsborne also had a big night tonight for the Lady Tomcats, going for eight points and eight rebounds.
For the White Falcons, number one Hannah Rose dropped 17 points. She also added two steals to her stat line. Mikie Lieving also added six points. The White Falcons did not take advantage of easy shots from the free throw line going 5-13, or 38%.
Imler in an interview after the game also talked about just how much the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant meant to her. She said that he drove her to work harder and she wants to put his work ethic to mind when playing, and she dedicates her 24 points to the man who wore number 24 for 10 years of his career.
Overall, the Tomcats cleaned up their mistakes at halftime and out ran the Lady White Falcons. They cleaned up the sloppy plays from the first half, and they capitalized off of the White Falcons mistakes. They scored many of their 50 points in transition and right out of the break after crashing the boards.
The Lady Tomcats defense really stepped up only allowing the White Falcons to score 28 points over four quarters of play. Jayne Six was blocking shots all night in the paint and Riley Campbell played lock-down defense against Hannah Rose in the second half.
The Lady Tomcats look to pick up another win on the road against Belpre on February 3. They need to beat Belpre in order to win the TVC-Hocking conference for the first time in 15 years and bring the title of conference champions back to Glouster.
