WOUB Releases 2019 Community Report
< < Back to ?p=249642ATHENS, OH – As a member station of both NPR and PBS, WOUB Public Media takes its responsibility to serve the community very seriously. With the release of the 2019 Community Report, WOUB is showcasing how the station is expanding its impact through the use of our television, radio and online platforms as well as non-broadcast educational services to meet the needs of the people in the region that it serves.
“WOUB marked 70 years on the air in 2019,” said General Manager Mark Brewer. “Since the beginning, WOUB had an important role to play in this community, and we have watched that role grow and expand over the years. We are proud of the work we are doing to support the people of this region through information and education, and we look forward to exploring new opportunities to work together in the future.”
The report identifies the many ways WOUB is using its multimedia resources to serve the educational, cultural and informational needs of the people of southeastern Ohio, western West Virginia and Northern Kentucky.
“In the report we look at the numbers and quantify how many people we touched in the region over the course of the fiscal year,” said Brewer. “I’m proud to say nearly 3,000 teachers were served through professional development training, nearly 500 people attended the premiere screening of WOUB’s Our Town documentary in McConnelsville, about 52,000 views have been tallied on our Gladden House Sessions YouTube videos, and there was an 118% increase in listeners to our podcasts. More people in our community and beyond are discovering and using the resources WOUB has available, and we want that to continue to grow.”
To celebrate WOUB’s 70th anniversary, a special spread of historical photos from WOUB over the years is also included in the report.
As a Community Service Grant recipient from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), WOUB provides the community report to the CPB and publishes it online.
