Athens Police Charge Man With Violating COVID-19 Health Order

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — A nuisance complaint in Athens ended with police officers arresting a person for violating the Ohio’s “stay-at-home” health order.

According to the police report, officers received the complaint Tuesday afternoon. Soon after they arrived at 112

East State Street, Andrew Wagner Ohliger, 23, of Amherst, was cited. Ohliger is listed as having attended Ohio University.

Violation of the health order is a second-degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $750 fine.

The Ohio Health Department issued the mandate on Sunday, March 22, as a way to decrease exposure to COVID-19. The order prohibits gatherings of any size and is scheduled to stay in effect until 11:59 p.m. Monday, April 6.
