ATHENS, OH – WOUB Public Media is launching a new podcast called Mom Powers with Coleen Krubl from Ohio University’s Patton College of Education and Andrea Walla from Ohio University’s school of Media Arts and Studies in the Scripps College of Communication.

The podcast brings together mothers to have conversations about their child-rearing experiences.  Each episode is dedicated to a particular parenting topic. The two initial episodes cover breastfeeding and sex education.

The breastfeeding episode provides good information and approaches to overcoming a variety of breastfeeding adversities and the sex education episode features Molly Wales, a mother of two and a school nurse, who took on the task of overhauling her school district’s sex education curriculum.

“The conversations are free-flowing with moms from the heartland about how they’re doing their best to raise healthy, happy children while juggling all the other demands of this crazy thing called life,” Krubl says.

“We laugh, love, learn, and from time to time commiserate. No subject is taboo,” Krubl adds.

She describes it as “a podcast by Moms for Moms.”

Mom Powers is hosted by Krubl, mother of “two rambunctious elementary school-aged children” and recipient of Ohio University’s Women’s Center Caregiver Award 2017, who also works as a professional organizer and project manager.

The podcast is directed by Walla, mother of two boys and lecturer in the School of Media Arts and Studies at Ohio University.
