Ohio Softball: Bobcats remain winless on season after sweep at East Carolina

The Ohio Bobcats softball team (0-5) got swept for the second straight week by the East Carolina Pirates (8-2) on the road for another weekend series.
The ‘Cats once again struggled on the offensive side of the ball. Coming up with a 5-1 loss in the first game. For the Pirates, pitcher Kama Woodall had a career-high eight strikeouts while only allowing the Bobcats to get five hits.
Madi McCrady took the mound and she was only 24 pitches in when replaced by Holly Brehm. Brehm recorded three strikeouts and allowed five hits.
Ohio was able to get one run in with Tori O’Brian crossing the plate on a Mikenzie Vaughn hit.
In the second game the Bobcats came in with the heat, but they weren’t able to keep the momentum going as they were shut down 10-4.
In the very first inning Annalia Paoli hit a three-run homerun, the first of her career. The bats remained silent up until the fifth when Paoli scored once again, this time on a Caitlin Fogue single. Each team played solid in the field coming up with zero errors.
Starting pitcher Mackensie Kohl was able to record two strikeouts while allowing eight hits.
McCrady came in and also got two strikeouts and allowed three hits.
For the third game, which took place a day later, Brehm had the pitching start with Kohl coming in for relief. The second inning was killer as the Pirates put up five runs to secure the lead early.
The squad struggled once again to make anything happen on offense after coming away with only five hits. They also had an issue with leaving runners stranded after leaving 13 out there, including a bases loaded scenario. They did apply some pressure on the Pirate pitchers after chalking up six walks.
Once again, the Pirates were able to get their bat on the ball well. They came up with twelve hits three of which were doubles.
Overall, it was another tough road series for the Bobcats. They struggled on both sides of the ball, but ultimately some positives came through for the team.
The Bobcats return on March 13 and 14 back down to North Carolina to take on UNC Wilmington
