After Rocky Start, Nelsonville-York Is Showing Signs Of Life In Win Over Oak Hill

NELSONVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) — After an impressive overall performance last week from Nelsonville-York, the Buckeyes followed it up with a shutout victory over the Oak Hill Oaks, defeating them 37-0 on Friday night.
After the opening kickoff in Nelsonville went underway, the Oaks found themselves pinned back on their own eight-yard line. The Oak Hill offense struggles to get out of their own endzone and on fourth down, a muffed punt led to the ball going out the back of the end zone leading to a safety for the Buckeyes, putting them up 2-0. The Oaks kick the ball away, but Tommy Mitchell for the Buckeyes turned on the jets down the right side of the field and returned the ball to the Oaks 17-yard line.
Buckeyes had the ball, fourth and goal with a little over seven and a half minutes left in the first quarter, quarterback Drew Carter took the ball on a quarterback run into the endzone. The extra point is good, and the Buckeyes are up 9-0.
Oaks get the kickoff and a couple plays later find themselves with fourth and eight. The Oaks fake a punt and move the chains for a first down on the Buckeyes’ 41-yard line. The Oaks then find themselves again with a fourth down, they are unable to convert, and the Buckeyes take over on downs with a little over two and a half minutes left in the first quarter.
The Buckeyes drive down the field, leading to a seven-yard touchdown run by quarterback Drew Carter. The extra point is good, and the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes lead 16-0 at the end of the first quarter.
After the beginning of the second quarter, Oaks’ quarterback Darrick Boggs throws an interception to Buckeyes’ linebacker Jared Justice, which was returned for a touchdown. Penalty flags flew as players from both teams got pushy with each other, which lead to the ejection of Buckeyes’ defensive back Shane Meek. The touchdown stands, the extra point is good, and the Buckeyes are up 23-0.
The Oaks’ drive is shut down by the Buckeyes’ dominant defense and are forced to punt. A couple plays later, quarterback Drew Carter is intercepted by Oaks’ defensive back Braylon Howell and the ball is spotted on the Oak Hill 32-yard line. Oak Hill soon comes up on a fourth down and three yards to go, Oaks elect to pass, and it drops incomplete, and Nelsonville-York takes the ball over with just under five and a half minutes left in the half.
With just over three minutes left in the half, the Buckeyes’ offense is on the move and the drive is capped off with an 18-yard catch and run touchdown pass from quarterback Drew Carter to receiver Keagan Swope. Extra point is good, and the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes go up 30-0.
Oak Hill gets the ball back and has a quick three and out, leading to a punt back to Nelsonville-York. The Buckeyes drive down the field and attempt a field goal kick. The kick is no good and time expires in the first half of gameplay. The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes take a commanding 30-0 lead into halftime over the Oak Hill Oaks.
Nelsonville-York’s dominant defense held Oak Hill scoreless through the rest of the game, while the offense only managed one more touchdown in the second half, ending in a final score of 37-0.
The Buckeyes will attempt to carry their momentum into Pomeroy as they take on the Meigs Marauders, where they will hope to get back to .500 after starting 2-3.
