Cadets are on cloud nine with a Barnesville blowout in playoff rematch
< < Back toZANESVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) — The Fort Frye Cadets piloted a comfortable win against the Barnesville Shamrocks in the Divison VI Regional Semifinal game. In comparison to the 2020 season, Fort Frye blew out Barnesville with a 34-0 league game and made it apparent to do so again in their second matchup.
As week thirteen came to a close, Fort Frye has been coasting through their contests with their strong offensive show, putting them as the number one seed. On the other hand, Barnesville was coming off a close win against KIPP Columbus with a one-touchdown lead.
Making up a large portion of the numbers on the board was senior running back, Maeson Long, helping to account for Fort Frye’s 184 rushing yards of the game. Long scored three of their six touchdowns for the night.
Collin Welsh made it a running clock game with a six-yard rushing touchdown. His first points on the board after a week four injury during Fort Frye’s regular season.
Defensively, Barnesville could not gain any momentum and found themselves in “rocky” territory the entirety of the game, as they could not gain their same offensive speed from the week before. Juniors, Owen Brown and Braxton Brown, and senior, Collin Welsh, held a tight defensive line against Barnesville; further hindering their inability to pick up speed.
Fort Frye’s Keegan Strode played on both sides of the ball. Robbing Barnesville with an interception and returning it back to the Cadet house rushing twenty-five yards.
Barnesville’s Spencer Bliss was able to slip a three-yard touchdown into the endzone at the end of the fourth quarter after a quick pass. However, Barnesville found themselves too late in the game to make a comeback.
Fort Frye finds themselves in the driver’s seat taking the road to victory straight into the regional final game next Friday, November 19th, against West Jefferson.
