Candlelit streets and beautiful, historic churches filled with Christmas music will be the perfect setting to enjoy the season when the Candlelight Tour is held on Saturday, Dec. 11, in Downtown Lancaster. This is the 42nd year the Fairfield County Heritage Association has presented the tour. Last year’s tour was canceled because of Covid. This year’s theme is “Hear the Joyful Refrains.”
The evening begins at 6pm at with music at Lancaster First United Methodist Church, 163 E. Wheeling St.. The audience then will be divided into smaller groups to visit First Presbyterian Church, Emanuel Lutheran Church, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and First English Lutheran Church. All the groups meet up for the grand finale at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 132 S. High St. The program will wrap up at about 9pm. A shuttle will be provided by Lancaster-Fairfield Public Transit for those with walking difficulties.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $4 for students 5 to 18. They may be purchased at the Fairfield County Heritage Association office in the Georgian Museum, 105 E. Wheeling St., and the Sherman House Museum, 137 E. Main St. Tickets are also available online at www.FairfieldHeritage.com or by calling the Fairfield Heritage office at 740-654-9923.
On the night of the tour, tickets for adults will be $12 each. Student tickets will be $4. Tickets may be purchased at First United Methodist Church, beginning at 5:30pm.
The tour goes on rain or shine. Tour goers are advised to wear comfortable shoes, dress warmly and bring a flashlight. A van will be available for those who have difficulty walking. Tickets are nonrefundable.
