Waterford clinches Regional trophy with win over Trimble
< < Back to ?p=278818The Trimble Lady Tomcats dream season came to an end on Saturday night when they fell to the Waterford Lady Wildcats in the Regional Final at Pickerington North High School.
Trimble got off to a good start, jumping out to an 8-4 lead by the middle of the 1st quarter, but Waterford quickly found their groove and went on a 6-0 run to take a 10-8 lead by the end of the opening frame.
The rest of the game proved to be low scoring, with both teams unwilling to give an inch on defense. The two teams scored just 13 combined points in the second quarter and the Wildcats took a 17-14 advantage into the locker room.
Turnovers and lackluster defensive rebounding would prove to be fatal for the Tomcats in the second half. The Wildcats full court pressure defense was successful in making the Tomcats uncomfortable and forcing turnovers, leading to success on the offensive end. The Wildcats were also able to take advantage of second, and sometimes third, opportunities coming from offensive rebounds.
Furthermore, the Tomcats outside shooting, which had been a strength of the team throughout the year, just wasn’t there. The Tomcats hit just 3 shots from behind the arc all night.
