Ohio Senators Plan To Return Heartbeat Bears
< < Back to ohio-senators-plan-return-heartbeat-bearsMany state senators plan to return teddy bears given to them by supporters of an Ohio "heartbeat bill" that would give the state the nation's strictest abortion limit.
The bears that produce a heartbeat sound when squeezed were delivered to senators' offices by children last week in a push by Ohio Pro Life Action to get the bill through the Senate.
The proposal would outlaw abortions at the first detectable fetal heartbeat – sometimes as early as six weeks into pregnancy.
It cleared the Ohio House in June.
Because legislators must report gifts of more than $25 on financial-disclosure forms, many prefer not to accept such gifts.
Ohio Pro Life Action says senators wanting to return the $33.33 bears should instead give them to a crisis pregnancy center.
