Waterford finally gets over the Trimble hump
< < Back to ?p=287980GLOUSTER, Ohio (WOUB) — The Waterford Wildcats entered the night unbeaten in conference play and in sole possession of first place. Even with Trimble’s lackluster 2-6 record this year they were still a threat against Waterford because the Tomcats were 2-1 in conference play, and they had not lost to Waterford since 2017.
It was a cool evening in Glouster with the temperature hovering around 50 degrees prior to kickoff.
The cold weather seemed to make an impact early as both teams struggled to do anything through the air offensively.
After the first quarter the score was deadlocked at zero.
The coverage in the secondary was tight for both teams and they made life hard for the opposing quarterbacks.
Trimble defensive end Blake Stanley was constantly in the backfield and made life hard for Waterford star quarterback Jake Pantelidis.
The second quarter finally brought some action offensively.
Waterford’s offense stalled on their first possession of the second quarter. However, they would get the ball back and Jake Pantelidis did what he does best and that’s make plays with his legs. After a big Scramble form the quarterback Waterford was set up for their first score of the night.
Lewis Cline took a dive up the middle for six and on the two-point conversion Dylan Taylor was able to punch it in.
Trimble still could not get any sort of offense on their next drive and was forced to punt it back to the Wildcats.
Waterford took advantage again as Jake Pantelidis tossed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Gaibe Ponchak to put the Wildcats up 14 with 1:30 left in the half.
After a free kick out of bounds set up Trimble at the 35-yard line they decided to get tricky. Their first play on the drive was a backwards pass to their wideout who launched a pass downfield for a forty-yard gain.
Trimble wasn’t done yet with the trickery as they ran a hook and ladder to get the ball down to the two-yard line.
Very next play, Tomcats quarterback Brandon Burtette threw a quick hitter to Max Frank for a touchdown with four seconds left in the half.
It seemed as if Trimble would have the momentum heading into halftime after a gutsy final drive.
That couldn’t have been further from the truth as Waterford outscored Trimble 16-0 in the second half and went on to win 30-6.
Waterford keeps their perfect conference record alive and will look to finish the season perfect in conference play next week against Belpre.
