POMEROY, Ohio (WOUB) – The lady Marauders came into Thursday night with a 4-2 record in Tri-Valley Conference play. Near the top of a tight TVC-Ohio division every conference game has even more importance as they come down the stretch trailing Athens and Nelsonville-York.
Wellston came into the matchup with only one win through their first seven TVC games. Meigs was looking to seize their fourth win in five games and continue their quest for a TVC title.
Meigs waited no time starting this game coming out and hitting a trio of three-point shots and dominating the first quarter outscoring the Golden Rockets 21-11. As the second quarter began the hot shooting cooled for Meigs and they were only able to muster up 11 points.
Despite the slower offensive numbers Meigs had a consistent presence throughout the game: their suffocating defense. From start to finish the Marauders were aggressive and applied a dangerous full-court trap. All night the trap was causing Wellston problems getting the ball up the floor and on numerous occasions it led to steals and Meigs fast-break points.
Trends from the first half carried over into the second and Megis continued to pull away with Rylee Lisle and Jennifer Parker leading Meigs to the 59-36 win. Lisle did what she has done all season: lead the team through scoring, rebounding and defense. While Parker controlled play by directing the offense and recording assist after assist.
The Lady Marauders also got solid performances from Andrea Mahr, who scored 14 points, and Maggie Musser who made an impact on both sides of the ball. Post-game head coach Heath Hudson said he is happy with the development of his team; “The girls are maturing as the year goes on so their doing a lot better and I’m proud of them.”
Meigs, amid their best stretch of the season, gets set for a collision with Athens on Monday night.
