Vinton County Vikings fall to Zane Trace in final regular season matchup

Vinton County was having trouble against the Pioneers defense, passing and rushing to put shots up. Shots were not falling for the Vikings as the Pioneers locked them behind the line, even when the Vikings drove past the arc they were getting shut down. The Vikings were up 11-10 at the end of the first, starting off strong.
Vinton County was keeping Zane Trace from scoring, and Garrett Brown put up a midrange shot to score the first points of the game. The Pioneers’ Nalin Robinson followed it up with a layup to tie the game up, before Garrett Brown knocked down a three pointer. Vinton County and Zane Trace went back and forth for the first quarter, with Garrett Brown putting up 7 of the Vikings 11 first quarter points.
Zane Trace started to heat up, taking the lead in the second quarter. Zane Trace made some risky passes that gave Vinton County the ball. The Pioneers ended the quarter up 32-23, and kept the lead for the rest of the game. Coming back from halftime, the Pioneers stayed up 46-37. Zane Trace kept up the heat, consistently rushing Vinton County to take shots that weren’t falling, finishing out the game 72-63 with the Pioneers taking the win over the Vikings.
Vinton County’s Garrett Brown put up 24 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 5 steals. Cobra Sharp also put up 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Although in the end it wasn’t enough to keep up with the Pioneers. Zane Trace’s Xzander Ream putting up 25 points and 7 rebounds. The Pioneers’ Nalin Robinson put up 22 points and 16 rebounds.
The Vinton County Vikings play the Warren Warriors in the first round of the playoffs Wednesday night.
