Bloom-Carroll drops their season opener
< < Back toCOLUMBUS, Ohio (WOUB) — After falling to the Harvest Prep Warriors last season, 20-7, the Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs were unable to get revenge, losing 38-16 for the second time in back-to-back years.
After reaching the state finals last year, Bloom-Carroll looked to begin the regular season with a notch in the win column but would come up short against Harvest Prep at Jack Johnson Stadium.
Heading into the first quarter, the Bulldogs received the opening kickoff, but after a dropped catch, Harvest Prep scooped up the ball and started with the opening possession. For the first half, Harvest Prep prioritized the run game with their starting quarterback, Desmond Porter. The run game from the Warriors would prove to be a struggle for the Bulldogs defensive line and secondary.
With 8:13 left in the first quarter, Porter put Harvest Prep on the board early with a quarterback sneak at the 5-yard line, giving the Warriors the early lead of 6-0. Only a few minutes later Bloom-Carroll’s Treyton Mckee, made a field goal for the Bulldogs and kept the team within striking distance for a chance to take the lead.
At the end of the first quarter, Harvest Prep led Bloom-Carroll 6-3.
In the second quarter, Bloom-Carroll’s offense tried combinations of different routes to get their receivers open, but Harvest Prep’s defense would be there with multiple stops from their corners.
With less than 8 minutes to go in the first half, Porter connected with a receiver on a 7-yard pass and a two-point conversion to extend the Warriors lead over the Bulldogs. Bloom-Carroll continued to struggle on the offensive end as they would not score for the rest of the half.
At the end of the first half, Harvest Prep would lead Bloom-Carroll 14-3.
In the second half, the Warriors continued to explode on offense against the Bulldogs. Harvest Prep scored eight points in the third quarter and 16 points in the fourth quarter.
By the end of the game, Harvest Prep extended their lead against Bloom-Carroll and went on to win 38-16.
Looking to next week, Bloom-Carroll will host Bishop Hartley with hopes to get their first win of the 2023-2024 season.
