McClain clinches first-ever playoff berth
< < Back to ?p=301032GREENFIELD, Ohio (WOUB) – While Hillsboro had already clinched a spot in the Region 12 Playoffs, McClain was still fighting for a spot in the Region 11 Playoffs with one regular season game left. McClain had everything to play for in, needing a win for any chance to play postseason football. In a defensive slugfest in the first half, McClain put together a complete game and take down Hillsboro by a final score of 21-13.
There were fireworks from the opening kickoff, and Hillsboro broke open a good return, but ended up fumbling near midfield and turning possession over to McClain.
However, that spark was not very well-lit. The two defenses traded blows and both quarterbacks missed targets downfield to end up scoreless at the end of the first quarter.
It took awhile for someone to finally get it going on offense, but McClain ran a perfect two-minute drill late in the first half to get on the board first, with Andrew Potts punching it in. McClain led heading into halftime, 7-0.
The Tigers were able to keep pace with Hillsboro the rest of the way, winning by a final score of 21-13. While we await the official word on the playoff seeding, McClain greatly increased its odds at making it tonight with the win.
