ALBANY, Ohio (WOUB) – The Buckeyes came into Friday’s game with a 1-1 record to start their season. Nelsonville-York took on the Alexander Spartans, looking to improve their record. They did just that, with the Nelsonville-York coach bringing home his first ever win against the Spartans.
In the first quarter, the Buckeyes got off to a quick lead, and they did not slow down. NY maintained this momentum for the entire game. A key player for the Buckeyes was senior, Keagan Swope. He kept the offense running with four assists and 21 points on the night. He could not be stopped. Alexander couldn’t bounce back, with the score at the end of the first being 22-12.
The Spartans continued to struggle on offense as NY pushed their full court press. The offensive helper for the Spartans during this was Klaxton Hawk as he moved the ball up the floor and had 10 points on the night. Going into the half, the Buckeyes had a dominate lead of 41-25.
The Spartans could not find the bucket in the third quarter as they only scored two points. The Buckeyes continued to push forward, scoring 10 more points in the third. Another big contributor is junior, Landon Inman. He was always looking to score, and he was aggressive on defense with two steals. Going into the final quarter of the game, the score was 51-27, NY.
In the fourth quarter, Alexander found a little spark with junior, Mason Morris sinking two threes. Despite this, Morris hurt the Spartans throughout the game with three turnovers. The Buckeyes did get into some foul trouble late in the fourth, but the Spartans could not capitalize on it as they missed seven free throws. With these missed scoring opportunities for the Spartans, they fell to the Buckeyes with a final score of 59-35, Nelsonville-York.
