ALBANY, Ohio (WOUB)— The Alexander Spartans defeated the Sciotoville East Tartans in a defensive 21-0 victory at home.

Sciotoville East would receive the ball first and struggle immediately. The Spartan defense would force a three-and-out off the back of Isaac Waller, who picked up two tackles. Alexander’s offense would pick up a first down but not much more on their first drive.

The second drive would be much of the same, with Sciotoville East going three-and-out. The Spartans would begin to show life on offense, driving down to the 32-yard line before missing a field goal.

On their next drive, they took that life and drove down the field, culminating in an Isaac Waller touchdown run to put the Spartans up 7-0.

Sciotoville East would continue to struggle offensively, but their defense would continue playing well.

On Alexander’s next drive, Tycyn Pernell would intercept a pass by Carter Jewell, giving the Tartans excellent field position. But they would fail to capitalize, turning over the ball on downs after Isaac Waller got the sack on fourth down.

The first half would be the same story the rest of the way, with multiple defensive stops before the Tartans would opt to knee it out to end the half, with Alexander up 7-0.

Alexander would receive the ball to begin the second half and would substitute in QB Alex Bateman in place of Carter Jewell. They would start slow, with a fumbled punt to give Sciotoville East the ball on the 23-yard line. Despite this opportunity, the Tartans would come away with no points, turning the ball over on downs.

Eventually, Alexander would begin to find a rhythm on offense. After long runs by Isaac Waller, Alex Bateman would keep the ball himself and run it in from 17 yards out for the touchdown to go up 14-0.

With the game beginning to get out of reach, Sciotoville East would go three-and-out once again, and have their punt blocked by Isaac Waller, giving the Spartans strong field position. Using that position, Bateman would keep the ball again, running it in from 10 yards out to put Alexander up 21-0.

Once the Spartans got up three scores the running clock began, and Alexander would opt to run out the clock to finish the game with a 21-0 win.

Alexander now looks to generate a win streak against the Belpre Golden Eagles. On the other side, Sciotoville East hopes to get their first win of the season against the Miller Falcons.
