Friday Night Blues continue for Washington Blue Lions, falling to Granville 70-14

GRANVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) – Just two years ago, Washington Courthouse was challenging Jackson for the FAC crown. With a new era being ushered in at Washington, the Blue Lions found themselves heading into week four 0-3 and desperately needing a win. The Granville Blue Aces have not lost in the regular season since 2022. That win would not come Friday, as the Blue Lions fell to the Blue Aces 70-14.
Granville wasted no time getting the scoring started, as star quarterback Beckett Long found Jakob Culver on the second play of the game from deep—a touchdown from over 65 yards out. Aces were up 7-0.
Washington’s first drive stalled, and Granville started with excellent field position via a botched punt, as it took the Blue Aces just two plays again to find the end zone. This time, it was Long taking it in with his legs from 20 yards out, setting Granville to 14-0.
The Blue Lions fumbled early on their second drive, setting Granville in an immaculate field position again. While it took more than two plays to find the end zone this time, the Blue Aces still found their way on the scoreboard. Cash Thomas cashed it in from goal-to-go, putting Granville further ahead 21-0.
Washington’s lone goal in the first half came on its third drive of the game. Star sophomore Aden Osborne had two huge catches that were aided by Granville penalties to set up an opportunity deep in Granville’s red zone. Osborne cashed in from a yard out but got injured on the play. He would not return, however, he cut the deficit to 21-7.
Culver and Granville moved down the field once again, taking just two minutes to do so. Culver punched it in once again, increasing Granville’s lead to 28-7.
The Blue Lions set back up to start the second quarter, but on the very first play, they handed the Aces a pick-six. Theo Talbot was the culprit, pushing the lead out to 34-7 on a missed extra point.
Good field position means a Granville touchdown. The Blue Aces answered right away and punched it in to increase the lead to 48-7 right before halftime.
With a running clock in the second half, that did not stop the scoring on either side. While Granville managed to pile on 16 more points via three touchdowns and two successful two-point conversions, Washington came away with a touchdown of their own in the third—a nice run by Drew Young. It was far little far too late, as Granville won 70-14 in an absolute drubbing.
Washington Courthouse will be back at it next week seeking its first win of 2024—making the trek far west rather than far east—facing Monroe in Southwest Ohio. Granville is at Utica next Friday, looking for a fifth-straight win.
