Warming stations are open in Athens County during the winter storm

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB/Report for America) — A number of locations in Athens County are available to residents as warming stations amid the ongoing snowstorm.

Anyone who needs a warming station should call first to make arrangements, according to the Athens County Emergency Management Agency. The phone numbers for Athens EMA are 740-592-3276 and 740-612-9000.

Warming stations are available at the locations listed below. If there is a power outage, only the locations in the first group will remain open.

With or without power:

Athens Community Center

Albany Fire Department

Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Department

Nelsonville Fire Department and City Hall

Coolville Volunteer Fire Department

With power:

Chauncey Fire Department

Richland Fire Department

Rome Township Fire Department

Glouster Church of Christ

Glouster Village Hall

York Township Fire Department

Christ Lutheran Church in Athens will also be open tonight as an emergency overnight shelter, according to The Gathering Place executive director Ginger Schmalenberg.

Emergency services can retrieve people who can’t get to a station on their own. Driving is illegal while the county is under a Level 3 Snow Emergency.

Residents can get additional resources like propane by dialing 211 to reach United Way.
