REEDSVILLE, Ohio (WOUB)– Waterford held Eastern scoreless in the second half and brought home a 28-13 win.
It was homecoming night in Reedsville as the Eastern Eagles welcomed the Waterford Wildcats. The Wildcats are 3-2 on the season overall, coming off a tough loss to Nelsonville York last week by one point. The Eagles are 3-1 and 1-0 in conference play, coming off a dominating win last week against Federal Hocking with a score of 50-16.
The Eagles started off with the football but went three and out on their first drive. Waterford’s next possession was ended due to an Ethan Edwards interception.
A Dylan McCuthcheon sack aided in the Wildcats next stop. Eastern starts to make their way up the field, but Weston Fairchild intercepts a Braxton Yonker pass and takes it to the house for the first score of the night. The first quarter ends as the Wildcats end up near the red zone once again.
At the start of the second quarter, the Wildcats rush attack got them close to the goal line. Hayden Jones delivered a short five-yard touchdown pass to Trevin Zimmer. Waterford now up 14-0 at the start of the second.
Braxton Yonker helps get the next Eagles possession going, hitting Parker Durst for a chunk play in the passing game. Ethan Edwards finds the end zone on a two-yard rush to get Eastern on the board.
An onside kick works for the Eagles, Hayden Willcox kicks the onside and Kyler Basham recovers it. Eastern marches down the field once again and Yonker finds his man Durst for a ten-yard touchdown. Willcox missed the extra point, so Waterford held a one-point lead. A Willcox interception all but ended the first half, keeping the score at 14-13.
Trevin Zimmer rushes it in for yet another Wildcat touchdown to start the second half. Following Hayden Jones calls a pass play and launches a 37-yard pass to Gavin Heiner who jumped over a defender to bring it in at the 12-yard line. In the final minute of the quarter, Hayden Jones scrambles and runs in for a three-yard touchdown. Wildcats up 15 at the end of the quarter.
The fourth quarter was defense only as no scores were given up, giving the Wildcats a 28-13 win. Waterford goes to 4-2 on the season as Eastern drops to 3-2.
