MARIETTA, Ohio (WOUB) — The Fort Frye Cadets (5-1, 0-0 TSL) traveled to face the Marietta Tigers (1-6, 0-0 TSL) in their first conference matchup of the season with the Cadets coming out on top, 35-0.
Although both teams had differing records, this game looked to serve as a fresh start with this being their first TSL game of the year.
After forcing a three and out, the Cadets offense went to work as they went on a long drive without a pass. It was capped off with a five-yard rushing touchdown from QB Grady Hesson. Fort Frye would jump out to a 7-0 lead after the extra point.
It would be deja vu later in the quarter because after another three and out for the Tigers, Grady Hesson would strike again with another rushing touchdown, this time from two yards out, increasing the lead to 14-0.
Marietta’s defense would step it up in the second, even coming up with a fumble recovery. But with about 40 seconds remaining, Fort Frye RB Tyce Beardsley would rip a 38-yard run to the endzone. The Cadets would take a 21-0 lead heading into halftime.
And they would put the nail in the coffin coming out of the half as Grady Hesson would find WR Gavin Rauch for a passing touchdown to make it 28-0 at the start of the third.
The Cadets would go on to cruise to a 35-0 Victory.
Overall, Marietta’s defense held their own at the start, but the persistent rushing attack from Fort Frye broke the levy and led to this result.
For the Fort Frye Cadets, they look to continue their momentum next week against Warren.
And for the Marietta Tigers, they look to pick up their first conference win next week against Point Pleasant.
