GLOUSTER, Ohio (WOUB) — The Eastern Meigs Eagles (4-3, 2-1) traveled to take on the Trimble Tomcats (5-3,2-1) in their 38th all-time matchup. Eastern has won the last three games in the series but is 7-31 against the Tomcats. Ultimately, the Eagles would extend their win streak over Trimble to four, taking this matchup 35-6.

Both teams would start the game off strong defensively, as both would exchange punts to Ethan Edwards of the Eastern Eagles would take a 29-yard run to the endzone to put the Eagles up with 6:00 left in the second quarter.

Trimble would get the ball back, but the Eastern defense came strong, forcing another punt. The Trimble defense thought they would do the same thing, but on an important 4th down and 2, the Eagles quarterback, Braxton Yonker, would sneak it up the middle for the first down. And to cap off the long drive for the Eagles, Ethan Edwards would punch the ball in from the 1-yard line to go up 14-0.

But Edwards was not the only one having fun with the Eastern offense. Their next drive would see Parker Durst break out for a 57-yard touchdown run to go up 3 points with 9:41 left in the second quarter.

The Trimble offense would try and respond and hopefully get the spark they needed, as they would drive down into the Eagles’ end of the field. But on a crucial 4th down and 3, the Eagles’ defense would come up strong and force a turnover on downs. Then on the next play, Braxton Yonker would find Sam Balch downfield for a 35-yard gain. Ethan Edwards would finish the drive off by finding the endzone for the third time on a 29-yard carry to put the Eagles up 28-0.

Nearing the end of the half, the Tomcats were looking for their first score of the game. They would drive down the field into Eastern territory. But Ethan Edwards would show that he could play both sides of the ball as he would intercept Paul Sharp’s pass inside the 5-yard line and return it to the Eastern 30-yard line.

The second half would show both defenses remaining strong, but both gave up a touchdown each.

Eastern looks to win its week 9 matchup against the Belpre Golden Eagles and make a push for the playoffs. Trimble will look to bounce back from this matchup as they will take on the Waterford Wildcats for their week 9 matchup.
